Glen Meadows Curling History, Achievements & Successes

The Glen Meadows curling rink was constructed in 1975 and has a long and proud history. The facility has a dining area and lounge in addition to the curling rink and spectator viewing area where you can enjoy a hot or cold beverage or a light lunch while observing on-ice activities. We organize and host several bonspiel events every year including competitive events for Mens, Women's, Mixed and Masters curlers. Our bonspiels are attended by many Vancouver Island and lower mainland teams as we are known for having some of the finest prize tables on the island.

The Glen Meadows Curling Association boasts many achievements and has had many curling successes.

The association has some of the most successful senior curling teams in all of British Columbia. Our teams have won three Gold Medals at two B.C. Senior Games as well as silver and bronze medals. They have also won the Silver Medal at the 2014 Canadian Senior curling championships as well as the Vancouver Island and Pacific Coast Master Curling Association championships. The competitive Senior teams hone their skills in the GMCA Senior Competitive League. For more details see GMCA Winning News.

The GMCA junior program has also had amazing success. Over the years the junior teams have won the advanced divisions in competitive bonspiels and placed well in the other divisions. For details go to the Junior Curlers Bulletin Board. But mostly the junior program focusses on introducing the young players to the great game of curling and teaching them the basics to develop a solid foundation on which to build for future success. This Junior success is mainly due to the large core group of dedicated certified coaches available to give training to both juniors and any other curlers wanting to improve their skills. In November of 2008, Glen Meadows Curling Association hosted the BC Junior Women's and Men's Playdowns for Regions 8 through 11. This event was well attended and we take comfort in knowing that the future of our sport is in very capable young hands!

On occasion, curling teams from other nations visit Glen Meadows to compete against our best teams. The Glen Meadows Curling Association hosted the Men's teams from Scotland during the 2013 Strathcona Cup Tour of Canada (the oldest international curling competition in the world) and was the only Vancouver Island curling association to post a winning record against them. Curling teams from USA and Korea have participated at some of our annual Bonspiels. Visits by international curling teams always attract a crowd of local curling fans who enjoy watching these exciting matches!

Come on down and see the facilities and our curlers at play. Or come out and try it yourself. More information about the leagues and playing opportunities may be obtained by contacting the Glen Meadows Golf & Curling Club at (250) 656-3136.
